2008 Emerald City Blues Festival, November 14-16

Postby LindyChef » Thu Aug 28, 2008 6:58 am

We're proud to present the fourth annual Emerald City Blues Festival in Seattle this November 14-16. What's new? For 2008 we have:

* Steven and Virginie - Two legends in vernacular dance are joining the instructor lineup this year, bringing decades of dance experience. Their classes are not to be missed.
* Three Seperate Tracks - To ensure smaller, higher quality classes, we've secured space for three separate levels.
* Dance Contests - Bring it, if you've got it.
* Nathan James and Ben Hernandez - When we heard their CDs, we were atingle. When we saw them at Rhythmic Arts, we were stoked. When they agreed to come to Seattle to play this year, we were ecstatic. Come see what all the fuss is about.

But as always, the heart and soul of this event is fantastic music and some mmmm-slap-yo'-mama-good social dancing. With the nation's best DJs and live jungle and janky blues, we'll keep you dancing to the break of dawn Monday morning, and cheering for more. There's a reason why we have such great coffee in Seattle.

You know, when we started planning this year, we knew that it was going to be fantastic. But now we’ve added even more amazing stuff!

DJing Class
Want to learn how to DJ? Want to sharpen your skills? Or just want to pick the brains of some of the best blues DJs in the country? Well join those DJs as they sit back and discuss DJing techniques, blues music and strategies for novice DJs. Cool, huh?

Sunday Evening Cabaret Show
Got a really cool routine that you’d like to perform? Think all of your friends would like it too? Well, if you’re interested go to www.emeraldcityblues.com and use the Contact Us link to email us about your interest in participating.

Contests
Our competition philosophy comes down to one idea: BRING IT. We want you to push yourself to the limits of what you can do and go beyond. We firmly believe that competitions are a great way to push individual dancers to incredible new places while at the same time inspiring people around them. And with Steven "Dr. Feelgood" Watkins graciously agreeing to DJ the competition, you know that it's going to be an incredible experience. Compete in the Amateur Jack & Jill or the Open Strictly Divisions. Or, if you’re lucky, you’ll be hearing from us soon with a request to compete in the Invitational Jack & Jill (remember, don’t call us … we’ll call you).

Volunteers
We’re always looking for people to help out with ECBF. If you’d like to help out, go to www.emeraldcityblues.com and use the Contact Us link to email us about your interest in volunteering. We’ve got plenty of regular volunteer slots (10 hours for entry into the entire event), but this year we also have some 1/2 volunteer slots (5 hours for 1/2 off a complete pass) and setup/strike slots (you’ll be helping setup and strike all of the evening and afterhours venues, but you’ll be completely free to take classes).

Wow! We’re blown away by the interest in the Emerald City Blues Festival this year. Currently registrations for the workshops are double where they were last year and at that rate we are going to exceed the capacity of our venues, so we're making some changes in our registration policy.

In order to ensure that we can provide a great educational experience, we are capping the number of workshop attendees at 160. Additionally, early registration will now end when we have 80 workshop registrants or by October 24th, whichever comes first. So register soon! This is an incredible opportunity to learn from Steven, Virginie and the best blues instructors in the country!

Registration closes Friday and the workshops will sell out!

This Friday registration is closing! Hurry up and register because we only have 5 open slots for the workshops. These are going to go quick and we doubt that there will be any slots available to purchase at the door. There's still plenty space left for the dances, but if you want to take a class with Steven, Virginie and the rest of our fantastic instructors, this is your last chance!

Competition Schedule has been updated

Due to high demand, we've moved the Invitational Finals to Saturday Night and the Jack and Jills to the Sunday Cabaret. We've also expanded the number of couples allowed in the contests from 24 to 40, so make sure to register for the contests! You'll be able to sign up at the evening dances on Friday evening and at the registration desk through lunch on Saturday.
