I play the Art Hodges version, which has Bechet playing in the band.

Excellent. I probably won't get to hear you DJ it anytime soon, but that's awesome nonetheless.

I believe Kelly Porter from Detroit has played that version. I forget her handle here, but I'm sure she'll hit upon this topic and reply.

Which Sidney Bechet version? Without looking, I'd bet my left pinky there are at least a half dozen. The one from the late 30's (38?) is worth a listen...but before you buy you should listen and know which version you are buying. A lot of them are dirges.

I should've been more specific; I meant the one off of the album "Summertime".

Yeah, I opened my set with a Bechet version of Summertime at Cheap Thrills, I think. The one you guys are talking about is a great version, it's 1939 I think, but my fav version of Bechet's is one that was recorded at the Savoy Cafe in Boston in 1945 with Bechet on sop sax, Ray Parker on piano, and Pops Foster on bass. It's a little hotter than the earlier version. Honestly I think it is probably one of my favorite jazz recordings period.
